Daddy uses the word "nerdy" a lot. Last week we were in Target and I was in a rush, trying to quickly find a birthday present. Going through the toy aisles with the kids is always a challenge, as they always see things they want and I am constantly telling them no and trying to teach them that there will always be things that we want and. . . My patience was low and Madeline could tell. My sweet girl hates when anyone is in a grumpy mood, so she turned to me, and said, "Mommmmmy, you are being soooooooo nerdy" in the silliest, most exaggerated voice. Oh my goodness. I stopped in my tracks and burst out laughing. Oh no she did not just say that.
As a preface to this story, I must share that Ryan has been making progress in the thumb sucking arena. At home, he is only allowed to suck his thumb in his room. This has been going on for a few weeks. Well, the beginning of last week was very cold. I placed Ryan in onsie pj's and then put him to bed. After crying for about 20 minutes, I went up to check on him (the boy usually does not cry after he is put to bed). I asked him why he was crying and he told me that he did not like his pj's and that he wanted to wear "shirt" pj's. I put new pj's on him that had a separate shirt and pants, but I suspected something was going on. The next couple of days, I went upstairs after him when he went into his room to suck his thumb. I realized that my sweet boy has developed a new habit. He likes to suck his thumb with one hand and place the index finger of his other hand, under his pants (ALL his pants) and then bring it up for a whiff. GROSSSSSSSSSSS! The boy never ceases to amaze me and make me laugh. I'm sure he'll outgrow it and will be embarrassed to one day read this. . .at least I hope. :)
